A Jackson couple has been referred to the District Attorney’s office on charges of child neglect after their four children ages five to thirteen were found living in a squalid apartment. Village of Jackson Chief of Police Jed Dolnick provides some of the details. When police arrived at the home with a county case worker they discovered an apartment littered with garbage, empty prescription drug bottles and drug paraphernalia. They also found the 31-year-old mother was incoherent due to a probable drug overdose. The caseworker and police went to the apartment Thursday in response to a report that three of the children had missed school for several consecutive days. The children's 35-year-old father was arrested Thursday on allegations of bail jumping. He was in violation of conditions for his release from jail on separate drug possession and delivery charges against him in Washington and Fond du Lac counties. He was charged Friday with bail jumping and possession of drug paraphernalia in Washington County Circuit Court. Authorities are continuing to investigate the allegations of child neglect. The four children were removed from the apartment Thursday and placed under county-supervised care.
