Wednesday was the day when legal officials that were directly involved in the Jessie Blodgett murder trial spoke out in favor of the guilty verdict handed down to Daniel Bartelt and offered condolences to the Blodgett family. Washington County D.A. Mark Benson issued a one page statement on behalf of himself and assistant D.A. Sandra Giernoth that summed up the trail in one paragraph followed by personal statements from the two of them. Benson said, "Our office would like to thank members of law enforcement from the Hartford Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office for their fine investigation in this tragic case. In addition, many other Governmental agencies provided essential analysis and testimony that contributed to the guilty verdict. These agencies include the /Wisconsin State Crime Lab, the Medical Examiners' Offices for both Washington County and Waukesha County, the Wisconsin Department of Justice and the FBI. Our office believes that justice has been served. Bartelt faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. He will be sentenced before the Honorable Todd Martens on October 14.
