8 / 4 Date Set for Blodgett Murder Trial


Accused murderer Daniel Bartelt appeared in a Washington County room Thursday afternoon for a final hearing before his jury trial gets started on August 11th. Bartelt is charged with the brutal slaying of 19 year old Jessie Blodgett in July of 2013. Presiding Judge Todd Martens one issue that was agreed upon by both sides was Blodgett’s parents, as well as Hartford Police Detective Richard Thickens, need not be sequestered during the trial and will be allowed to be inside the courtroom. Several other people directly connected to the case however, will be sequestered until after they testify. Washington County District Attorney Mark Benson is forecasting the trial could take about ten days, depending on how long the jury selection process takes. He said once the case begins the state’s portion will be completed in about a week. The trial begins at 8:30 a.m. Monday August 11 and is scheduled to end by August 22nd .
