9/26 Red Cross Offering Training Conference for Volunteers

American Red Cross chapters across Wisconsin are combining forces to host the 2nd Annual Wisconsin Disaster Training Conference from October 16-20, 2013 in Wausau. Red Cross volunteers and staff will be receiving classroom to hands-on knowledge and experience to
cross-train, reinforce and engage the best core of disaster responders possible. People of all ages, and life-experience, are encouraged to become local responders before garnering the experience to respond nationally to places like Moore, Oklahoma or Hurricanes that strike our coastlines. Barbara Behling, the local Red Cross Communications officer says the conference is packed full with four days of training. Behling says the course is being offered because disasters happen every eight minutes including a recent apartment collapse in Milwaukee. Each attendee at the conference must be a registered volunteer. Behling says there is time to complete the online applicationprocess and background check before registering for the Training Conference.
