8/23 Sheriff investigates Possible Hate Crime

SHERIFF INVESTIGATES POSSIBLE HATE CRIME
The day shift for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department took a complaint earlier this week of a number of Sikh people that have been living at 5716 Cheryl Lane for the past several weeks.  The group takes a nightly walk up the road. On Tuesday night they went for their
walk around 945 when a car approached them and stopped.  The group heard two pops and one of them suddenly felt a sharp pain in his shoulder.  He had some bruising show up. It is unknown if it was BB gun or some other type of projectile. The SIKH’s indicated that the vehicle  was a smaller car with pop up lights and gave a possible partial plate.  Lieutenant Martin Schulteiss of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department says fortunately this type of crime is not too common in Washington County, so as of now, it’s a bit perplexing to the department Through some follow up deputies were able to find a plate from the area. They spoke with the registered owner and follow up to continue to determine if they are involved.  The Lieutenant also said they are not yet investigating it as solely a hate crime, but they certainly are not discounting the possibility.
