The United Way of Washington County 2013 campaign got off to an overwhelming start on Tuesday night as organizers first goal of having at least 200 volunteers help box up meals for distribution to area food pantries was met and exceeded according to Kristin Bradner, Executive Director for United Way of Washington County. Brandner reports that by the end of the night volunteers packaged over 61,000 meals for distribution to the six area food pantries and two homeless shelters throughout Washington County. United Way of Washington County’s second campaign goal is the monetary commitment. It’s an increase of twelve and half percent from last year, but Bradner feels it can be reached. The goal is $1,350,000. United Way provides an opportunity for community members to give back and pay it forward through giving, advocating and volunteering. Donations raised by this year’s United Way of Washington County’s campaign will be used to fund over 33 programs offered by 22 United Way partner agencies in addition to providing support to new root cause initiatives. The campaign runs from now thru December 31st. To make donation or for more information go on line to their website, www.unitedwayofwashingtoncounty.org.
