9/20 Jackson Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Child Abuse

22 year old Melissa Feldner from Jackson was back in a Washington County Court room on Wednesday. She is being charged with child neglect resulting in bodily harm to her two year old son. Feldner entered a plea of not guilty. According to the initial report from the Jackson Police Department after an examination by a local physician was conducted at the request of the boy’s father, the physician called Jackson Police and reported having observed injuries all over the child’s body.  The injuries were to his scrotum and mouth. He also had a lacerated spleen most likely caused by blunt force trauma. Feldner initially told Police that the injuries occurred over several days when the child fell out of bed, walked into a wall and tripped on a kitchen rug, police said. In a second interview, she said he may have been injured when she kept him from kicking during a diaper change. Feldner remains free on a $1,000 signature bond.   Her next court hearing date has been set for October 22nd. She is not allowed any contact with her son. If convicted; she faces up to six years in jail and a fine of not more than ten thousand dollars.
