UW Washington County will be playing host to two rather distinct and different concerts this weekend. Tonight, Rio Bamba, a four-piece jazz band from Chicago, will kick off the Fine Arts series at the college at 7:30pm in UW-WC’s Theatre on the Hill. Enhancing the campus focus on Brazil with a fall lecture series, book discussion and photography display Rio Bamba will feature Brazilian music with its catchy dance rhythms along with other jazz music. While classic Brazilian jazz, samba and bossa nova performed in the original Portuguese as well as in English may be this band’s forte, they have been known to add a touch of American rock/blues bravado without ever disrespecting the original source material. Tickets for tonight’s performance are $15 adults, $13 seniors (over 62) and youth (under 18). Tickets may be purchased at the door. Tomorrow night, The UW-Washington County Ballroom Dance Club is sponsoring a concert fundraiser, featuring the Roller Mills String Band at 7pm in the campus theatre. The Roller Mills String band is a local 4-member ensemble that performs traditional as well as old time music with a focus on the hammered dulcimer. All proceeds will benefit the West Bend and Jackson Community Thanksgiving Dinner held at several locations in Washington County for those in need. Admission to the string band concert is free, with a $10 donation suggested. The University is located at 400 University Drive in West Bend.
