9/23 Hartford Police and School District Conduct Evacuation Drill

How do you prepare your school staff and students to react in the event that the worst case emergency scenario happens? School Officials with the Hartford Joint #1 School District along with the Hartford Police Department conducted a pre-planned facility evacuation drill so they could be prepared for an actual crisis. This full-scale drill was conducted on Thursday morning and it relocated the approximately 550 students and school staff of the Central Middle School.  Central Middle School students were evacuated to one of the predetermined evacuation points for that facility. Hartford police officers were on site during this drill to facilitate safe student pedestrian movements during the evacuation drill and to monitor traffic safety. Also on site for the drill was Hartford Police School Liaison Officer Eric Rasmussen and members of the Hartford Police Department’s Senior Command Staff to ensure that the newly-revised protocols for this type of an event were followed, and to critically evaluate those protocols for their efficiency and effectiveness afterwards. Central Middle School parents were notified by school officials of the exercise prior to this drill. School officials said additional drills are planned for all Hartford Joint #1 Schools as well as for the Hartford Union High School. No specific dates have been announced.
