In spite of the government shut down at the national level, all Wisconsin WIC program locations remain open. Carol Berkeland, Washington County WIC Supervisor spoke with WBKV News to make the important announcement. The purpose of the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants and children is to promote and maintain the health and well being of their lives. Women are strongly encouraged to still shop at grocery stores and use their WIC food checks. The Washington County office is located at 333 East Washington Street. There is also a remote location in Hartford. Birkeland says that while the office is open during the on-going government shut down, hours will vary and women are encourages to phone ahead. The number to call is 335-4741.
