Recently released total assessed values in the City of West Bend once again decreased, but efficiencies within governmental operations will allow the final tax rate for 2014 to decrease. An increase in final property value and a lower need for tax incremental district (TID) distribution from original estimates will allow the final tax rate to decrease one cent from $8.52 to $8.51. West Bend City Administrator T.J. Justice offers his thoughts on this good trend and praised the hard work of the city’s administration, common council, employees and citizens saying that it is a victory for our entire community and should serve as a positive example for other municipalities around the state. Mayor Kraig Sadownikow also spoke highly of this result saying through the hard work of the city’s administration, common council, employees, and citizens, we have identified efficiencies enabling the city to reduce debt, increase savings, and lower the property tax rate. In the end a one cent rate decrease means the owner of a $200,000 property will see the city portion of their property tax decrease by two dollars.
