11/21 October Home Sales Down, Prices Up

For the first time in over two years, Wisconsin Realtors did not sell more houses in October than they did the year before.  The Realtors Association says its members sold 56-hundred-47 homes last month, five fewer than in October of 2012.  That marks the first time since July of 2011 that year-to-year sales of existing homes did not increase.
Washington County home sales numbers were down very slightly at seven tenths of a percent with 150 homes sold compared to 151 last year in October. Neighboring counties also recorded lower numbers in Dodge County home sales were down 22-percent last month compared October of 2012. Fon Du Lac saw its home sales dip by eight percent selling 79 homes compared to 86 homes in October 2012. Both Washington and Fon Du Lac Counties saw a drop in their median sales prices of four point three percent less in Washington and fifteen percent in Fon Du Lac. But in Dodge County the median sales price was up 25-percent to $140-thousand dollars. Statewide, the typical house went for 142-thousand-500-dollars last month, five-point-six percent more than the year before. Year-to-date sales are faring better with home sales 12-point-four percent higher for the first 10 months of 2013, totaling just over 60-thousand houses. There have been 1549 home sales in Washington County 715 home sales in Dodge County and 881 in Fon Du Lac County so far this year, all up from this point last year. Wisconsin Realtors Association chairman Steve Lane says the numbers are somewhat surprising, but not totally unexpected.  He said both this year and last year represented very strong, very healthy housing markets.
