Yesterday morning’s initial snowfall accumulation for the season wound up catching many drivers off guard during the morning commute to work. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department reports that from the time it started snowing around seven am until it dissipated a total of 14 vehicles slid off the roads and into ditches. There were 17 reported incidents of minor runoffs or fender benders that resulted in property damages. The report also includes one case of a hit and run at the split of southbound highway 41 where a semi ran into the back of a county plow and fled the scene. The sheriff’s department conducted a search on the south end of the county looking for a semi that sustained front end damage. The report did not state whether or not any truck was located.
