12/2 Sheriff Department Issues a Scam Alert

On Thursday November 14th at about three fifty in the afternoon, a Washington County female resident reported to the sheriff’s office that she had received a call from a person who she did not believe was American representing himself as a technician for MAKE YOUR PC SMILE. He asked her to log on to her computer so he could fix it. The woman immediately believed this was a scam and asked for a name and call back number. He stated that his name was Alex Titter and did not want to give a phone number. He called back a half hour later and asked again if she was ready to log on to the computer. This time he gave a call back number for 1-800-320-8947. When the deputy called this number it was a sex chat line. The woman did not give up any information or log on to her computer. She checked with OFFICE MAX where she purchased her computer from and they stated it was a scam. The woman told deputies that both calls came in blocked on her home phone line. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department wants citizens to be aware of this holiday season scam and advises you if you receive any type of a suspicious call asking for credit card numbers or computer log codes to hang up and if at all possible contact local law enforcement with an incoming phone number.
