Rick Parks the current treasurer of the West Bend School Board announced yesterday that he will run for re-election in the April 2014 school board elections. Parks said, “I had decided a few weeks ago to try and continue my board service and thought it was best to make a formal announcement sooner than later.” “Serving on the School Board has been a very positive experience for me personally. I’ve come to respect and admire my fellow board members. The group has evolved to strike a good balance between meeting the expectations of the community while moving us towards being a Destination School District.” Parks cited a number of accomplishments for the schools during his time on the board. “Finalizing the 25 year facility plan and then seeing the community approve a referendum was a great accomplishment. It was a real fiscal coup based on the construction costs negotiated and the extraordinarily low financing that was available. We’ve also taken a very thoughtful approach to taking advantage of cost savings available due to Act 10. Parks is a 14-year resident of the district and is President & CEO of Society Insurance in Fond du Lac. He and his wife, Joni, are the parents of two sons, Kyle who is a sophomore at West Bend West and Matt who graduated from West in 2011. Parks becomes the first candidate to declare his intentions. A total of three seats are available for the April general election. If needed a primary election would be held February 18th.
