A Hartford teen, accused of running from Mayville police, made her initial appearance yesterday in Dodge County court. Elaine Polzin is charged with OWI and felony counts of Fleeing an Officer and Operating a Vehicle without Consent. Police attempted to stop her vehicle for a missing license plate and defective tail lamp just after midnight on October 10. The 18-year-old allegedly continued driving under the speed limit for over three miles, from Horicon Street to Highway 67, before skidding to a stop near the Highway 33 intersection where stop sticks were deployed. She was the only occupant of the vehicle. She exited with her hands up and was taken into custody without further incident. Before the officer was able to read Polzin her rights, she reportedly admitted to being drunk and driving a stolen vehicle. She told officers she stole twenty dollars and her mom’s car keys and got “trashed” on beer and whiskey. Her blood alcohol level was point-nine-seven, which would be over the legal limit for driving even if she was of legal drinking age. The felony charges carry a combined maximum of seven years in prison, if she is convicted. Bond was set at $1000 yesterday and a judge will decide in February if there is enough evidence to order a trial.
