1/16 Fighting the Heroin Epidemic with HOPE Legislation

State representative John Nygren told his emotional story of his daughters heroin addiction on the assembly floor and convinced law makers to pass four bills by a unanimous decision.
State Representative Pat Strachota weighed in on the bills by saying: “When I met with Washington county judges they told me that the increase in heroin trafficking and abuse was a serious issue in our county and across the state that needed to be addressed. I applaud Representative Nygren for taking on the issue, and working to get these necessary bills passed today. Today we took the first steps in the fight against the epidemic.”
Specifically the bills passed are: Proper ID required when you pick up certain narcotic / opiate prescriptions, EMT’s now can administer Naloxone for overdoses in the field, Immunity to good Samaritans who call 911 to help someone that overdoses, and a Drug disposal program.
