Airgas Inc.'s plans for a large new distribution center and regional office are proceeding in Germantown, with the Planning Commission set to consider approving the proposal at a February 3 meeting. Airgas wants to develop a 253,263-square-foot building on 23.6 acres south of Mequon Road and west of Eisenhower Drive, in the Germantown Business Park. According to a village report, the new facility, with a distribution center and a two-story, 58,450-square-foot office building, would replace a smaller facility on Whitney Drive in the Germantown Industrial Park. The new facility would have room for future expansion, and could eventually accommodate up to 400 employees. Airgas now has 230 area employees, with plans to add 50 more employees within the next 18 months. David Schornack, Germantown village administrator said the project received a generally positive reception at Monday night's Plan Commission meeting. But there are concerns about how visible the proposed facility's roof-top mechanical equipment would be from nearby Mequon Road. Schornack said Airgas will return to the February third meeting to show how that equipment would be screened. If the commission recommends approval, the Village Board would consider the proposal at its February third meeting.
