2/3 Apartment Fire

On Sunday night at 832 PM the Washington County Sheriff’s Department was notified of a fire in an attic area of an apartment building at 4630  Highway 33 in the Town of Barton. Upon the arrival of deputies and first responders, smoke could be seen coming out of from the roof area of the apartment building. First responders and deputies confirmed all tenants were out of the building, and located an active fire within in the attic space above the second floor hallway. Firefighters from Kohlsville and Allenton were able to extinguish the fire and contain the fire to the area of the attic and second floor hallway ceiling. Also responding and assisting were fire crews from St. Lawrence, West Bend, Kewaskum, and Slinger. Lifestar ambulance was also sent to the scene. Due to smoke damage and the apartment’s electric and heat being disconnected as a result of the fire, the American Red Cross and the Washington County Humane Society assisted tenants with lodging for them and their pets. Nobody was injured in the incident. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Washington County Sheriff Department. An estimated amount of damage is not available at this time.
