A battle to decide whether or not to allow the expansion of the Saturday farmers market which runs MAY 24TH THRU October 25th is now underway. Several downtown businesses oppose it because it would block their store fronts, while many others are in favor of the expansion because right now due to lack of space they are turning away quality vendors. Kellie Boone, Event Manager for the Down Town Business Association says despite 14 businesses being opposed to the expansion, just as many feel it needs to expand and remain in the downtown area for a variety of reasons. West Bend Mayor Kraig Sadownikow says city officials do not want to get into the middle of a neighborhood dispute. He did say despite the differing opinions, everyone agrees the farmers market is an asset to the city. The two sides have 30 days before the first council meeting in March to talk out their differences on how to expand the summer Saturdays farmers market.
