2/12 Open Session Meeting to be Set for Farmers Market Dispute

The West Bend Economic Development Corp. is looking at some dates this month to host a public town hall-style meeting to find a path for consensus regarding the disagreements over the possible expansion  of the Downtown’s Farmer’s Market.  Board President Prudence- Pick -Hway said the WBEDC wants to schedule the evening meeting with in the next three weeks, in order to get it done in February. Last week, the Common Council tabled a decision on the Downtown West Bend Association’s request to expand the summer outdoor market another block south on North Main Street. The council plans to make a final decision on the expansion proposal in March. While a majority of downtown businesses support the expansion, some object, saying the Farmers’ Market will interfere with parking and customer access to their shops. Pick -Hway said that they will try to have the forum at a large hall at UW- Washington County. All downtown businesses will be invited, as well as city officials and community members.
