Barry “The Bear” Hersh was born and raised in Milwaukee. The Bear attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated in 1985. Barry started his radio career in Lykens, Pennsylvania (30 minutes from Harrisburg) in early 1986. Upon returning to Wisconsin, Barry worked at stations in Ripon, Sheboygan and Milwaukee doing everything including on air announcer and sales rep positions. Barry was one of the initial air talents hired in 2005 to help launch Milwaukee’s first full time all sports talk format station. Following a management change, Barry landed at WBKV as a part time staff announcer in 2006. During the next six years, Barry filled in for Bob Bonnefant on the morning show along with being a substitute news anchor and as a Sunday board operator / announcer for weekly shows and NACAR races. Barry also hosted the morning show on our sister FM station WBWI numerous times. In addition to all of that, “The Bear” began handling play by play duties for High School sports in 2010. Since 2012, “The Bear” has been the full time News Director for both stations WBKV /WBWI as well as continuing his play by play duties for high school sports. When not busy with all his radio duties, Barry works as a Travel Consultant representing Shooting Star Travels in West Bend. Barry has traveled to many countries and has been on numerous cruises. Barry is married to Linda. They have no children, but many nieces and nephews. In addition to being an avid Badger fan, Barry is also very active in the community with Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge #261 and the Tripoli Shrine Masons where he can occasionally be seen in costume as “DIVOT” the clown.
