4/28 Couple Killed in Crash Leaves Behind 5 Children

The tragic news of the double fatal car accident we reported on Friday, became even more tragic over the weekend, as family members identified the two victims and reported that the couple leaves behind five children ranging in ages from 16 months to 13. Relatives identified the couple as  37 year old Joshua Griebel,  and his wife, 38 year old Monica of Colgate. They died about 2:30 a.m. Friday in a single-car crash not far from their home on Highway 164 just north of Highway Q in Richfield.  The Washington County Sheriff's Department is continuing to investigate the Friday crash. The couple's car was northbound when it crossed the centerline, entered a ditch, hit a culvert, went airborne and hit a utility pole before landing upside down.
Joshua Griebel was thrown from the vehicle, and Monica Griebel was pinned inside. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.Friday's crash was the second in less than two years involving Germantown-area residents whose deaths left a home full of children without their parents. Robert and Becki Lubow of Germantown died in July 2012 after a motorcycle crash in Slinger, leaving behind three children ages 6 to 17.
