State Senator Glenn Grothman was the choice among Republicans at the party’s state convention over the weekend to succeed outgoing Tom Petri for the 6th district congressional seat. WisPolitics.com conducted a straw poll and reported that 159 statewide voters chose Grothman while his closest competitor - Senator Joe Leibham of Sheboygan - received 85 votes. Among 6th district voters, 44 chose Grothman while 26 chose Leibham. Grothman also won a straw poll held last weekend at the Ozaukee County Republican Party Lincoln Day brunch. Grothman says he does have name recognition, but his campaign is lacking some financial support at this point. There will be a three-way GOP primary between Grothman, Leibham and Assemblyman Duey Stroebel.
