5/6 Tourism Spending in Washington County and the State up in 2013

Visitors spent more than $106 million dollars in Washington County last year , which is an increase of about six percent from the year 2012 , which puts Washington County  among the top ten counties in the state for growth in visitor spending. The number of jobs supported by tourism also rose just over two percent, showing the area's continued steady growth, according to figures released by the Wisconsin Department of Tourism in conjunction with National Tourism Week. According to the state report, tourism in Washington County also generated $12.9 million dollars in state and local taxes in 2013, up more than four percent from the previous year. Statewide, visitors generated enough tax dollars to save Wisconsin taxpayers nearly $590 dollars per household. Across the state tourism activity was up four-percent last year with an economic impact of 17-point-five billion dollars.  Craig Farrell, Executive Director of the West Bend Area Chamber of Commerce said in a prepared statement " "We are very pleased with these numbers."Visitors are  discovering how much West Bend and Washington County have to offer and  we're honored to be chosen as a favorite place to relax, enjoy art,  history, nature and of course, the best geocaching in the Midwest!"
