5/19 Neitzke to Present 2014-15 Budget to School Board Tonight

A fairly busy and important agenda awaits members of the West Bend School board tonight starting at seven. One of the more vital items to be discussed will be the 2014-2105 District Operating budget.  District Superintendent Ted Neitzke is very optimistic about the budget he will be proposing.  The district is currently restructuring, as five of it’s elementary schools will become kindergarten through grade four buildings, Silverbrook will house all fifth- and sixth graders, while all seventh- and eighth-graders will attend Badger Middle School . The district worked with area legislators to draft a bill changing state law so that students in seventh and eighth grade can receive credits for taking high school classes. Neitzke said because of that change and the restructuring of the grade levels, more courses will be offered.
The proposed budget will also take advantage of another law the district worked hard to have the state approve, one that allows school districts to set up trust funds for building improvements without affecting state funding.  Neitzke said he will propose to the School Board more than $300,000 be set aside in a fund to build a new Jackson Elementary School. The district’s long-range goal is to save ten million dollars in the next five to ten years to defray the cost of a new school in Jackson. Also at tonight’s school board meeting, various students will be honored for their achievements this year, including the East-West High school Key Club.
