5/30 School Bus Driver Crashes Bus with Student Passengers

Hartford Police Chief David Groves is reporting a case of a school bus accident Thursday morning. According to the report, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Cedar Street at about seven forty five am. Officers were able to immediately determine that the parked car was unoccupied at the time of the incident. At the time of the crash the school bus was carrying 25 children. No injuries were immediately reported at the scene, but some students later complained of soreness.  Further investigation included an evaluation of the bus driver by a Hartford police officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert. That evaluation determined that the driver was impaired by a substance other than alcohol that had rendered her unable to operate a motor vehicle safely at the time of the incident. The driver, only being identified as a 68-year-old Hartford woman, has been arrested for Operating While Intoxicated with passengers under the age of 16. This matter remains under investigation at this time and her name is being withheld.
