On Thursday night at approximately 7:30 pm the West Bend Police Department received a report of an erratic motorist on East Washington Street near the intersection of South River Road. The caller was able to provide the license plate on the vehicle. When officers were not able to locate the vehicle, the information was passed along to the Sheriff’s Dispatch Center since the registered owner’s address was in the Allenton Town of Addison area. According to the report from Sergeant Beres of the Sheriff’s department, ashort time later around seven fifty, a Deputy was traveling east on Highway 33 , when he located the suspect’s vehicle traveling westbound at a high rate of speed . The Deputy proceeded westbound, but lost sight of the vehicle. The Deputy proceeded to Allenton and located the suspect’s vehicle after it had just been involved in a head-on collision with an eastbound pickup truck near the intersection of Main Street and Church Street. The Deputy reported the engine compartment of the suspect’s vehicle was partially on fire. The Deputy cut the seatbelts of the driver and passenger of the suspect’s vehicle and was assisted by some bystanders in removing them from the vehicle. The driver and passenger were transported by ambulance to St. Joseph’s Hospital for serious injuries. The driver was then transferred to Froedtert Hospital via Flight for Life. The driver and sole occupant of the eastbound pickup truck was transported by ambulance to Aurora Medical Center in Hartford for minor injuries. The Washington County Accident Reconstruction Team is currently working on the case. Alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the crash, but no other information is being released at this time, including any arrests or criminal charges.
