6/26 Bliss Communications Sells WBKV

Bliss Communications, Inc. publisher of The Janesville Gazette and parent company of Racine Broadcasting, LLC and West Bend Broadcasting, Inc. announced on Wednesday an agreement to sell radio stations in Racine and West Bend Wisconsin to Magnum Communications, Inc., a radio group based in Tomah, Wisconsin.
Sidney H. Bliss, President of Bliss Communications and Dave Magnum, President of Magnum Communications, Inc. jointly made the announcement to both Racine and West Bend employees.
“The radio stations have been an important part of Bliss Communications for 17 years in Racine and 43 years in West Bend. We have enjoyed our relationship with the communities and the terrific employees of both radio stations. However, this sale represented an opportunity for me to pass the ownership of these great stations to a Wisconsin based broadcast group that believes in quality community based broadcasting.”, said Bliss.
Magnum said, “My late wife, Lynn, and I started our radio group in 1991 and currently it includes 12 radio stations, one Class A TV station and two LPTV stations, all located in Wisconsin. With this acquisition, which we expect the FCC to approve; our radio signals will stretch from Milwaukee to La Crosse. It will be a privilege to be the next stewards of these great stations and continue their long history of service to the community. WBKV-AM 1470, West Bend signed on in 1950’s; the FMs, WBWI 92.5 in West Bend and WEZY 92.1 in Racine, are two of Wisconsin’s heritage FM signals, according to Bliss. The transfer of the stations broadcasting licenses must be approved by the Federal Communications Commission before the sale can be closed. The approval process usually lasts 60 to 120 days. Bliss Communications will continue to operate the stations until final FCC approval is obtained and ownership is transferred.
