7/7 City Taking Action on Abandoned Hazardous Property

An abandoned and structurally unsafe property located at 2100 Northwestern Avenue in West Bend has city officials concerned over its safety and potentially dangerous scenario that it threatens citizens especially children with. On Thursday, just prior to the July Fourth holiday, city Administrator T.J. Justice issued an announcement that the city  will be seeking an Order to Secure  the Property from the court, so they can  create a safe perimeter that will prevent the public from accessing the site and structure, until the city is able to act on a Raze Order. Justice said, “The city has gone to great lengths to work with the owner to redevelop the property, “However, the owner has failed to make substantial progress on the property. The property remains a substantial risk to public safety including a recent fire that went unreported for 24 hours. Justice is asking for the public’s cooperation in staying away from the property. There is strong evidence of kids and trespassers having previously entered the property. Justice is asking parents to make certain their children and friends are aware of how dangerous the structure is and that entering it could result in injury or worse.  The city’s decision to pursue legal action is the result of a coordinated effort by the police and fire departments, and the department of development, division of building inspection.
