The Washington County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the death and possible suicide of an inmate that happened at the County jail on July 18th. According to the new release provided by Sheriff Dale Schmidt, the man was housed in a dorm area with other inmates. At approximately 9:20pm, another inmate observed the victim and notified Corrections Officers. Officers immediately summoned EMS and began CPR. The victim was pronounced dead at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee on July 19th.The victim, a 23 year old City of Milwaukee man, was serving a sentence for Disorderly Conduct after having his Probation status revoked. He was also on Huber Law status, but was unemployed. The victim was booked in to the Jail on July third. Standard booking procedures were followed with no indication of risk. His name is not being released at this time. The Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau and Medical Examiner Office are conducting the death investigation, and per protocol, an internal investigation is being conducted by Jail management staff. The incident will be reviewed by the WI-Department of Corrections Jail Inspector per DOC code. The Medical Examiner has not yet made a ruling on cause and manner of death. According to Sheriff Schmidt, although the investigations are not yet complete, there is no indication of foul play or drug use, and no policy violations discovered to date.
