A highly contested race in the sixth congressional district GOP primary looks to be headed to a recount between two of the candidates Glen Grothman and Joe Liebham. Initially it appeared that Glen Grothman had pulled the upset victory and defeated his opponents including Liebham by a slim margin. Then a second check on the results from Liebham’s home district of Sheboygan County made the race actually too close to call, with Grothman holding just a 215 vote lead. Fon Du Lac County Clerk Lisa Fryberg says the board of canvassers for the various counties will meet next week to make totals official. The State Government Accountability Board certifies the results and then the clock starts running for a candidate that wants a recount. Fryberg said that as of Wednesday morning the results still aren’t official and there are outstanding ballots that have to be counted. At this point, she anticipates a recount could begin the week of August 25th: Freiberg says under a new state law counties will also have to agree on the method for the recount whether to count ballots by hand or by feeding the ballots back through voting machines.
