The Heritage House, Cedar Community’s restored turn-of-the-century farmhouse, located at their main campus off County Road Z, will be open on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. for an ice cream social and open house. The Olde School will also be open for tours. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a bake sale with homemade items and ice cream sundaes for only one dollar. This event will be held rain or shine and has no admission charge; however, Free-will donations will be accepted. For more information about this special event, please call 262.306.4218. Heritage House is the former homestead of Cedar Community’s original benefactor, William Koehl, and was built in 1865. Visitors can relive history in a variety of ways by playing an 1884 pump organ in the parlor, learning about pumping cistern water, or using homemade soap to hand-wash and line-dry laundry. Sunday’s event is just one of several events that Heritage House volunteers host during the year. Other events include re-enactments, holiday open houses, demonstrations, tastings and speakers.
